Saudi Arabia · Arabian Gulf
Jubail is a city on Saudi Arabia's Arabian Gulf coast, about an hour's drive north of Dammam. It pairs a historic old town with a planned industrial city whose shoreline is lined with free public parks. Come for sunset walks at Al Fanateer, seaside picnics, a 1928 watchtower and an unhurried pace.

Jubail is not a postcard city. It is a working Gulf town that happens to have a long, green, open waterfront.
Most travellers know the name from industry. Visit Saudi itself describes Jubail as "one of the largest industrial cities in the world", and the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu has run the Industrial City since 1975. Look past the plants, though, and you find something few visitors expect: a landscaped corniche, beaches with shaded seating, and parks where families gather once the heat breaks. Visit Saudi lists the main seaside parks as free to enter.
Then there is the older Jubail. Before oil and petrochemicals, this was a pearling and fishing settlement, and the old town is where that story starts.
Plan Your Trip
Head north to the Industrial City shoreline. Al Fanateer Beach has footpaths along the water and a corniche with restaurants and cafes; the marina next to it runs boat trips, fishing and diving outings. The Al Jubail travel guide covers each stretch.
Free entry, lawns and play areas make Jubail an easy family stop. Al Nakheel Beach and Corniche Park has shaded arish seating and children's play areas, while Andalus Park adds cycling paths and food trucks, according to Visit Saudi.
Start in Jubail Balad, the old town. The Crease Archaeological Tower, also called Al-Tawiya Tower, dates from 1928 and guarded a well and the coastal villages around it (Visit Saudi; Wikipedia). It is a compact stop, so pair it with a drive through the older districts.
Sculptures greet visitors at the entrance to Al Nakheel Corniche Park, according to Visit Saudi. Our Jubail art page covers the other public works in the city.
In Jubail for work in the Industrial City? A late walk on the corniche or dinner by the sea fits neatly around a working day. For the economic story, from petrochemicals to hydrogen, read From black gold to green gold.
Jubail is also a base for the wider Eastern Province. Central Dammam is about 86 km away by road, Dhahran about 96 km and Al Khobar about 106 km (OSRM routing on OpenStreetMap data, October 2026).
